Like many typical buildings in New York (street view), this building features a lot of cast iron, cast-iron staircases, and plenty of metalwork and wrought iron.
This building, including the majestic staircases and the fences (separating private and public domains), was restored to its former glory by the company Van Cronenburg from Ghent (with an office in New York).
The draftsmen and designers at Van Cronenburg got to work and, through close collaboration with us, an action plan was drawn up for casting new stringers, treads, risers, balusters, railings, and bollards, as well as manufacturing the fences, all in compliance with current local standards.
The castings were entirely entrusted to our sister company Waterschoot Metals BV. All welding and steel construction were carried out by us.
What did we do?
Built a test setup in the workshop for each staircase
Welded, metallized, and painted the fences and their ornaments
Constructed additional balustrades for the staircases
Be sure to also check out the website of our sister company Waterschoot Metals if you’d like to see more about how the new castings for the staircases were made
